An all - girl Tamil pop show

They will not only be heard but also seen live giving their best amidst  world class sound and light systems.  Five gorgeous young girls from across the seas are all set to make music lovers by storm with a mind blowing 20,000 watt power stereo.

" The Girls ", an all-female Tamil pop band from Malaysia, is perhaps the first of its kind abroad.  They are not only sizzling and spicy gals who can turn the audience in to ' movers and shakers'.  But also aspiring trendsetters to a blend of Tamil pop music with a South East Asian flavor.

The girls would release their dance-oriented maiden Tamil pop album- Manasukul (in the heart) - at Chennai on August 11 and also set the stage ablaze in Madurai and Coimbatore by repeating the performance on August 15 and 18 respectively.

After bagging the 'Best Female Group ( Rock )' award at the Indian Musical Awards 2000, the five member band is out to catch the attention of Asian youth by expanding its horizon across the continent.

"Manasukul" is an eight -track pop album composed by Ismail which encircled by rock music and Bhangra.  The band includes two Tamil girls. Sharmila Kesavan and Jessica Narayanan, apart from the three Malays - Leina Hangat, Narazimah Mustifa and Zuraidah.

The Big Deal Media ( p) limited, headed by popular small screen anchor, James Vasanthan, would present " The Girls " to Tamil Nadu.

The pop show coming to Madurai is apt in the sense the Temple City has played a perfect and encouraging host for several musical nights and talent shows in the past.  However, all such evenings were either film-oriented or classical.

This is perhaps the first ever mega event with a western outlook and is expected to unleash a sense of musical ' freedom ' on the 'Independence Day' among pop music lovers at the Tamukkam Grounds here.

The Galatta.Com, a portal which already caters for fun loving film fanatics with humour-filmed film reviews and celebrity chat, would click its way to take "The Girls" online.

The power packed 120 minute live performance with pre-programmed ligt sequences would be telecast by telecast by Vijay TV.

The concert would be held at the CIT Grounds in Coimbatore and Royapettah YMCA Grounds or Film City Amphit theatre in Chennai on August 11.

YET ANOTHER spectacle for the eyeballs even before the stars hit the big screen. Sneak previews, interviews, reviews, mp3s, wallpapers, downloads, trailers, promos--you name it and it's all there in the long corridors of cyber Ville.

Film promotion through the web is on a phenomenal high. `Lagaan' set up shop on indya.com. So has the Amitabh Bachchan-Manoj Bajpai starrer `Aks', to be released later this month.

www.lovekeliye.com (`Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega') and www.dilchahtahai.com (`Dil Chahta Hai') are spectacular showcases of the movies coming out of Bollywood. Tamil movies are not left behind at all. Check out this list released by Galatta.com: www.dhilmovie.com,

We believed there was a market for these sites. We knew that once they are up, the fans would hit the sites. That's why though we sometimes start off free (without charging the celebrities), we soon convince them why it makes sense to have a site. The movie sites are all paid....we are paid to put them up,'' says Deepa Linga Sekar, Content Manager of Galatta.com.

It is basically the desire to know more about the movies and the stars beforehand that drives the traffic towards the sites, in many cases. That is why sify.com plans to have unofficial sites for some of the forthcoming movies.

We have the biggest archive of movie content in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Hollywood. We have microsites (not stand-alone sites) of the movies in the news. So when we do it by ourselves, we don't get paid,'' says Suchitra Ramadurai, Channel Manager-Movies, sify.com.

So is there money at all for the people who put up the site? ``Yes, movie sites are definitely where the money is. We plan to get into it soon, because when you couple promotion with booking of tickets, it would work,'' says Anees of clicktickets.com.

Clicktickets incidentally, had worked on putting up sites of Vijay (www.ilayathalapathyvijay.com) and Mammootty (www.mammootty.com) a few years ago, one of the first in the business.

``We even gifted Shah Rukh Khan the domain name when he was here,'' adds Anees. Later Shah Rukh went on to launch www.srkworld.com along with friends Juhi and Aziz Mirza. Many other stars in the North followed suit.

Down south, Maniratnam's Madras Talkies has been using the net for the promotion of its movies, for quite some time now. Kamal Hassan had not only launched a site for his movie `Hey Ram', he had even released a CD-ROM for a press kit.

Whether the film-makers like it or not, all buzz about their forthcoming releases, makes news in cyberspace. Promotional stills are splashed across sites. Even the songs, well stacked in mp3 format are waiting on the net, ready to be downloaded even as the film-makers wonder `Whodunit'?

Thanks to the appetite of the film-crazy netizen, official movie sites are on the rise. Just a matter of time, before the broadband makes way for bigger volumes of stardust to hit cyberspace.

' Adults Only' site surfaces on movie portal

The film goers, hoping to chat with their favourite matinee idols, were taken for a rude shock her this morning as the movie portal "www.galatta.com", led to a hardcore adult site when accessed through a private Internet Service Provider (ISP).

The 'Galatta.com' organises 'chat' with leading stars from the tinsel town every Saturday.  Mr. Ajay Kumar, who was the hero of the movie "Ooty" and plays a key role in Kamal Hassan's forthcoming, "Aalavandhan", was scheduled to chat with net-users this evening.

According to 'Galatta.com' Chief Executive Officer, Mr. C.R. Venkatesh, more than 1.5 lakh page-visits are recorded everyday out of which around 4,000 are from Madurai alone.  The foreign site depicting absence pictures on its homepage suddenly replaced the 'Galatta.com' portal this morning, he said.

"Chatting is the most popular part of our website.  This is the fourth occasion when an adult homepage is intercepting into our site by default.  Our advertisement clients and viewers are offended by this", he said adding that the problem surfaced only in Madurai and Tiruchi.

However, the ISP officials when contacted acknowledged the confusion, and said that the technical snag was rectified from Chennai later in the evening.

According to the Managing Director of Plus Point Systems and Software Ltd. Managing Director, Mr. P. Nirmal Kumar, had there been a security breach, it would have caused the problem to every visitor irrespective of his location and ISP.  "The only possibility is that the Domain Name Server (DNS) entry would not have been updated with the local node of the ISP", he said.

Meena loves to sing. The fans are listening intently.
She is lending her voice to cause of "Kadhalism". That's her second album, which is all set to hit the shelves on July 1. The lyrics are by Pushpa Vasagan and T.S.Muralidharan composes the music. Recording of eight songs for the album was over and one more was being toyed with.

Meena was the Saturday-night celebrity for galatta.com's online chat event. She sang too, a very brief stanza from her already-released album "Pathinaru Vaithinile". Among her latest celluloid ventures include "Citizen" with Ajit to be released on June 1. Besides, she is also cast against Jayaraman in a Malayalam movie, 'Magic Lamp' and against 'Chiranjeevi' in 'Manjunatha' (Telugu). The chat with over a thousand people online is done from a small room.. Refreshing is Meena's reaction, after the hour-and -a-half long event.

She was in virtual splits trying to recollect the high points of the chat. A fan, desperate to catch her attention, even threatened to call her "kollu patti" if she did not respond. And as she left the chat room, there were a string of byes from all. "I would love to do it again" she says, before leaving.

Entertainment portal's gesture to handicapped kids

Galatta.com, an entertainment portal based in Chennai has introduced an online charity auction for the dresses used by Kollywood stars.  This auction is meant to help the inmates of Guild of Services, a home for the handicapped children and some money would also be given to the Rotary Club of Madras.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the company, Girish Ramdas told News Today that the auction which started 14 April was gaining a lot of attention for it was first of its kind in India.

He said a several film personalities like Jyothika, Meena, Laila, Madhavan, Surya, Vikram, Raghuvaran, Abitha had already contributed memorabilia to the charity auction and the stars like Rajanikanth and Kamal Hasan would also be contributing.

Galatta.com also had chat sessions with popular film personalities every Saturday and Meena would be the first in the list 5 May.  This portal has almost everything related to movies except for the full movie telecast, Ramdas said and added that the company also has been doing official portals for a lot of movies and personal sites for film celebrities.

He said the company also has five language portals in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, English and Hindi and 55 city portals with all information about the cities right from Kanyakumari to Chennai.

The company has recorded a turnover of Rs 26 lakh for the last six months, he said and added that the main revenue came from advertisements.  Ramdas said though the sites 65 per cent were NRIs and the NRI viewer base has been increasing.

He said the company's aim was to achieve a turn over of Rs 75 lakh for the coming year.  The site had a viewer ship base of more than 50 lakh a month and an average of 8,000 viewers per day.

What do people usually do to celebrate their first anniversary? Throw a party, pop a bottle, give away gifts? Well, Galatta.com the movie portal is celebrating its anniversary in different way. They are holding an online charity auction of memorabilia collected from movie stars of the South India film industry. "This is the first time that such an auction is being held. A bewildered Maddy tried to keep up with his fans on galatta.com during the online chat, but answering the queries of nearly thousand fans was not easy.  
	
Did you know that Madhavan wanted to be a soldier, and he strongly feels that he would have made a better soldier than an actor?  This was one of the secrets that Madhavan let out to his fans during the live online chat organised by galatta.com at Just Around the Corner last Saturday.  Maddy had a hard time entering his own chat room as there were over 400 fans logged on at the same time.  And once he entered the chat room, Maddy could only shake his head in disbelief at the questions that kept pouring in, barely giving the actor a chance to reply.

'Maddy, are you acting in a Hindi movie?', 'Do you have any kids?', 'Are you losing weight?' - the volley of questions kept Madhavan on his toes.  He did try to answer as many questions as he could, though keeping pace with his fans' was not easy.  He chatted for over an hour about his movies, his wife Saritha who was also present, his dog, and his efforts at losing weight.  By the end of the chat there were about a thousand people waiting online.

But by then Maddy was famished.  He couldn't keep away from the food counter, although he had promised his fans to lose weight.

MADDY ALWAYS wants to ride. He was there on Saturday night, on the Net at Just Around the Corner, a new hang-out spot on Greams Road which opens on Tuesday.

Madhavan was online at eight o'clock and the chatroom of galatta.com was hit by no less than 400 fans logging on for their turn to chat. Maddy, u're so cool.. I like your acting.. U've got a sweet smile.. I'm mad about you, and many more. Well, was he flattered ?

There were personal queries too. Like ``where did you meet your wife'', ``do you have kids'', ``what's your next venture'', ``any Hindi movies'' and so on.

Cool, says the star. ``It was a great experience.'' Enjoyed every byte of it, Maddy says with a smile.

Does Madhavan chat often ? ``Not really. But hereafter, I do intend to come online a lot more often. It is great fun.'' So, no need to lose heart, for those who missed out this occasion.

How did you feel the questions put to you were ? ``Well, they were very passionate ones.'' The likes of ``What's u'r fave song in Minnale (Ans: Vasigara)'', ``Would you act as a villain (depends on the role and the script)''.

The flurry of questions and messages continued but the hour was over in no time.

even as other websites are searching elsewhere. Even as content is looked 
upon as an outdated web strategy, their thrust is on quality information.
For them, the Internet is one big galatta. It is a film-based 
entertainment channel. Its net spreads across most 
districts in the State. Galatta.com might just be
rewriting the script. The website's thrust is on 
filmy fun. ``Some of my team, less than a year

What the site does is package the film industry.

Prakash, Jyotika and others. And Girish wants
