No Dookudu sequel!

Ace director Sreenu Vaitla's proposed Mahesh Babu starrer has been confirmed.

The shooting of this untitled action-entertainer is expected to start soon after Srinu Vaitla wraps up Baadshah with Jr. NTR and Mahesh finishes shooting for Sukumar's film.

The duo earlier worked together in Dookudu and sources close to the director said that the film is not a sequel to Dookudu as speculated, but it'll be a different script altogether.

Telugu Department releasing in June

Producer Kiran Kumar Koneru, who bought the distribution rights for the Telugu version of Rana's Hindi film Department, confirmed that the Telugu version will be released in June. Presently, dubbing works are going on.

Department, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt in other roles, received negative reviews from critics. According to them, the film has more drawbacks than its strengths. It has been rated an average of 2 out of 5.

Taapsee talks about Daruvu

Actress Taapsee is currently busy with two Telugu films (Shadow, Gundello Godaari) and her immediate release is Daruvu (directed by Siva), which is slated for release on May 25. Talking about her role in Daruvu, starring Ravi Teja as the hero, she said that he plays a Bharatanatyam dancer.

Asked why she signed this film, she said: "It was more because of the comedy genre. I would be working with people like Brahmanandam and Ravi Teja who are masters in this genre. Director Siva has seen a success with his films. I was relying on the genre's success. Ninety per cent of the time, comedy works."

Notably, this is her second film with Ravi Teja after Veera and according to her, Ravi Teja is cool and peppy. "He's highly energetic on and off the sets. He's not hot headed but cool and peppy. Ravi Teja off screen is just the way he is on screen. He's always friendly," she further said.

Ram-Tamannaah duo's much awaited romantic entertainder Endukante Premanta, which was postponed from May 11 to avoid clashing with Gabbar Singh, will be released on June 8, the makers confirmed.

Karunakaran is the director and Sravanthi Ravi Kishore of Sravanthi Movies is the producer. GV Prakash composed the music. 14 Reels Entertainment will present Endukante Premanta in Overseas through FICUS.

Mohanlal as Satya Sai Baba?

If the reports are to be believed, Tollywood director Kodi Ramakrishna has approached Malayalam superstar Mohanlal to play the role of Satya Sai Baba. There is no confirmation yet, but it is learnt from reliable sources that talks are on between the two parties and Mohanal is interested in this project.

This bio-pic was planned a year ago when the spiritual guru Satya Sai Baba passed away on April 24. The shooting of the film is underway right now and Malayalam actor Sreejith Vijay, shot to fame with Rathinirvedam, plays the young Sathya Sai.

Gurpreet Singh to play villain in Okkadine

Upcoming Hindi actor Gurpreet Singh will be the villain in Nara Rohit's upcoming Telugu film titled Okkadine. This is his first Telugu film in his career.

Hari Venkateswara Pictures bags Dhamarukam overseas rights

Hari Venkateswara Pictures has bagged the overseas rights of much awaited Nagarjuna-Anushka starrer Dhamarukam, written and directed by Srinivasa Reddy.

Produced by R.R. Venkat under the banner of R.R. Movie Makers, this socio-fantasy is expected to release on July 6. Music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad and cinematography is by Chota K Naidu. Presently, the post-production is going on.

Nagarjuna, Ravi Teja in Ajith's next?

Director Vishnu Vardhan is leaving no stones unturned to make his next directorial venture, with Ajith in lead role, a memorable one. The latest is that the team is in talks with top Tollywood actors like Nagarjuna, Ravi Teja and Jagapathi Babu for strong guest roles. Mollywood star Prithviraj is also on the list. Apparently the producers are planning to release the film simultaneously in Telugu too.

The film, produced by A.M. Rathnam, is all set to go on floors in Mumbai on May 31. The star cast also includes Arya, Nayantara and Taapsee Pannu. Prince Mahesh Babu, who is currently shooting for the multi-starrer Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Cheetu along with Venkatesh, has reportedly asked the SVSC makers to a marriage scene in the film.

Apparently, the actor is very superstitious about including a marriage scene or a song in his film, because all his earlier super hits Murari, Okkadu, Athadu and Dookudu had marriage songs or sequences.

Meanwhile, the shooting of the film was temporally stopped after its one of the heroines Samanatha is down with fever. The makers were supposed to film some combination scenes on Mahesh Babu and Samantha, but the actress is unable to shoot for the last few days. The makers thus postponed the shoot and are now waiting for Samantha to get well soon.

Family hero Srikanth's upcoming untitled film, being directed by Prasad NSR and produced by V.S. Ramireddy, is progressing at brisk pace. Aksha is the heroine. The unit recently canned a song on the lead pair under the supervision of choreographer Swarna. An item song was also filmed on item bomb Rewa and Srikanth.

Sources said that around 50 percent of the film is complete. The unit will soon travel to Bangkok to complete the rest of the shooting. Cinematography is by Rasool while Gana is scoring the music.

K Raghavendra Rao turns 70

Ace director K. Raghavendra Rao, one of the pioneers of commercial cinema in Tollywood, celebrates his 70th birthday on May 23. Best known as Darsakendrudu among the directors, the director was born into an agricultural family in 1942 and made his debut with Babu in the mid seventies.

He has directed more than 100 films, including memorable Adavi Ramudu, Vetagadu, Driver Ramudu, Gajadonga, Kondaveeti Simham, Babu, Devata, Trishoolam, Bobbili Brahmanna, Agni Parvatham, Ooriki Monagadu, Adavi Donga, Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari, Gharana Mogudu, Rowdy Alludu, Janaiki Ramudu, Akhariporatam, Annamayya, Sri Ramadasu, Alludugaaru, Allari Mogudu and Major Chandrakanth.

He introduced stars like Venkatesh (Kaliyuga Pandavulu), Mahesh Babu (Rajakumarudu) and Allu Arjun (Gangotri). He brought stardom to Sridevi and Jayaprada in Telugu. He was awarded the B.N.Reddy National Award for 2009 for his contribution to the Telugu film industry. Currently, he is directing a devotional film titled Shirdi Sai, starring Nagarjuna.

Racha completes 50 days

Despite lukewarm reviews from the critics, young Telugu superstar Ram Charan's Racha is making good business at the box office. The film now completes 50 days in 127 centres on Thursday.

"Racha is the first Tollywood flick in 2012 to cross 50 days in more than 100 centres. The film is successfully running in 127 direct centres. The movie has had a successful run in three South Indian languages as well," the film's publicist Sreenivas said. The producers claim that the film has collected a share of over Rs. 45 crores in collections.

Life is Beautiful releasing in July

Ace director Sekhar Kammula's upcoming Life is Beautiful, which is under production for a long time, is likely to be released in July. However, the releasing date is yet to be announced. The shooting is almost complete and the post production is also being carried out simultaneously.

After several delays, Balakrishna’s forthcoming Adhinayakudu is finally making its way to the theatres. Sources said that the film will be released on on May 31.

The film got delayed several times in the past due to some financial issues by its producer M.L. Kumar Chowdary. Seemingly, they are almost settled after a series of meetings headed by Dasari Narayana Rao.

Directed by Paruchuri Murali, the film stars Saloni and Lakshmi Rai as the heroines. Balakrishna plays triple roles including one of an aging political leader in this film. Jayasudha will be seen in an important role. Kalyani Malik composed the music.

Gabbar Singh crosses 50 crores

Pawan Kalyan’s runaway hit Gabbar Singh continues to rock at the box office. According to reports, this Dabangg remake crossed Rs. 50 crore mark (approximately Rs. 52.25 crores) in 10 days, marking a record in Tollywood.

Gabbar Singh, released in a record number of theatres across the globe, is being screened around 176 theatres in Nizam, 58 in Hyderabad, 22 in Mumbai, 25 in Bangalore and 186 in USA.

Reports say that Gabbar Singh is going strong at the box office because it does not have a strong competitor currently. If it goes like this, the film may cross Rs. 75 crore mark at the end of the second week.

Anushka in Kahaani remake?

Recently we have reported that leading TV production company Endemol India, which is set to foray into film making, has bought the remake rights Vidya Balan's Kahaani. The production house is planning to remake the film in Tamil and Telugu. The latest is that the team has approached Arundhati actress Anushka Shetty to star in the remake and she immediately gave the nod for the project.

Known for its TV shows like 'Bigg Boss' and 'Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi', the production company will commence the remakes in September. Both the Tamil and Telugu versions will release in January 2013.

Balakrishna visits Chennai

Veteran actor Balakrishna was in Chennai for the poster release of his direct Tamil film Varuvan Thalaivan, directed by debutant Sekarraja and produced by Lakshmi Manchu in both Tamil and Telugu. Manchu Manoj plays an important role.

"I was born and brought up in Chennai and I love to do a direct Tamil film now. Manoj is a bundle of talent and he is sure to go places. Lakshmi Manchu is making her foray in Tamil with a big-budgeted venture and we are happy and elated," Balakrishna said during the event.

STR, P. Vasu, Manobala and Banu Chander among others attended the event and spoke. The film is almost complete. The audio would be released in June and the film in July.

Telugu super star Balakrishna is all set to do a direct Tamil film now. The star will soon start working on Varuvan Thalaivan, a bilingual being made in both Tamil and Telugu. The first look of the film was recently released in Chennai. The film is directed by debutant Sekarraja and also has Manoj Manchu in prominent role. The film is produced by Lakshmi Manchi, daughter of veteran actor-filmmaker Mohanbabu.

If the reports are to be believed, Gemini Kiran has come up produce director Veerabhadram Chowdhary's proposed mafia thriller titled Bhai, starrer Nagarjuna.

Earlier, producer M.L. Kumar Chowdhary, who was supposed to be the producer of Bhai, opted out of the film owing to the financial issues surrounding his Adhinayakudu.

The female lead of the film is yet to be announced. Director Veerabhadram Chowdary is riding high on the success of his runaway hit of Poola Rangadu, which completes 100 days on May 27.
