A.R. Rahman, British university join hands

Indian Music maestro A.R. Rahman's Chennai-based KM Music Conservatory has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Britain’s Middlesex University to conduct a programme focusing on blending Asian and Western music, said a press statement released on Thursday.

Middlesex University, which offers programmes in music composition, music management, music performance, and jazz and popular music, may also look at opportunities to provide a collaborative three-year music programme. Rahman, who has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the university, described the collaboration as "a great bridge between Indian and Western music."

Meanwhile, A.R. Rahman will conduct a peace concert in January 2010 at Parramatta Park in Sydney, Australia, where many Indian students have been targets of alleged racial attacks, a press statement said on Thursday. The Oscar winning composer said the concert will be an attempt to 'reunite culturally and spiritually' in view of the racial bad vibes.
